The client for this project required an exemplar framework for managing diversity in its industry accompanied by a model for encouraging employers to actively commit themselves to benchmarking themselves against best practice. There was an additional need to establish the extent of good practice in the industry and to develop case studies, based on the best practice.
Primary research comprised in-depth telephone interviewing while a considerable amount of the development work was based on the relevant experience of the Pye Tait Research Manager and the findings of the research. Project outcomes included a framework for in-company management of diversity and a two-stage benchmarking process. It was also established that while there are examples of good equal opportunities practice and inclusive training policies in the industry, companies are generally some way from effective and profitable diversity management.
