The approach in brief was to develop an occupational map that outlines the roles and context(s) within which roles are undertaken; and a functional map, which breaks down the role into key functions in order to identify the skills and knowledge required. Using this framework, Occupational Standards were developed which delineated the skills and knowledge of those working in the role.
This was the first time that standards had been developed for such a role in the voluntary sector.
